Welcome to the
break-dancing section of this little page.
Break-dancing is style that has adpated many
different dance styles and fused them into one
form. mixing beauty and grace with hard hitting
moves and style altogether. Break-dancing can be
broken down simply in to four basic styles: 1)
Uprock. 2) Floor work (footwork, florock, etc. )
3) Power moves. 4) Style (flava or flow). 1) Uprock
Uprock consists of
basic dance moves used while standing. Uprock is
ususally used to establish a rythm before going
down to the floor to perform power moves of floor
work. Uprock usually incorporates popping and
locking, freestyle and house elements. To have
truly tight Uprock, you must create your own
style and incorporate these elements into your
routines. Also, during battles, Uprock is
essential to decimating your opponent, and making
him look like a fool.
2) Floor work
Floor work is another
essential to breakin'. Floor work consists of
various moves such as six-steps, three-steps,
tecks, threads, and your own personal style.
six-steps and three-steps are the more basic
moves on the floor, but at the same time, great
technique requires more skill. tecks and threads
are learning moves, the more you learn them the
more difficult they become. Floor work in itself
requires stamina, and creativity. Concentration
is also key, keep your thoughts on what your
doing.
3) Power Moves
Power moves. What more
can I say? They require lots of practice,
strength, and coordination. We all know what they
are. Flares, windmills, headspins, 90's, head
tracks, air tracks, etc.. The tricks to these is
to concentrate on one power move until you feel
you have mastered it, then move. Personally, I
suggest learning headspins first. Thy help with
coordination, balance and strength. This way you
can move on to other moves more easily.
4) Style
What is dancing
without style? You can have all trhe power moves
there are but without the flava your gonna go
nowhere. Style is your creativity and ingenuity.
Its your ability to create new moves or different
freezes and poses. Flava is the most important
element to all dance styles, you gotta have it.
Without it, your basically just rolling around on
the floor and jumping up and down.
Well those are some of
the basic elements of breakin'. Obiviously their
are more things to it, but their is still more to
come on this page.
